Yoshimasa Tsuchiya
Sculptor Yoshimasa Tsuchiya was born in 1977 in Kanagawa Prefecture.
After graduating from the Sculpture Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts, he studied classical sculpture techniques in the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Properties Sculpture Major at the same university's graduate school. After completing the doctoral program at the same graduate school, he creates polychrome wooden sculptures using unique expressions such as the technique of splitting the head open and inserting crystal or glass eyeballs from the inside.
He takes the image of creatures appearing in myths and legends as the origin of his ideas, using animal figures that embody formless thoughts as motifs.
