Artist introduction

Title

Yoshimasa Tsuchiya

Sculptor Yoshimasa Tsuchiya was born in 1977 in Kanagawa Prefecture.
After graduating from the Sculpture Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts, he studied classical sculpture techniques in the Conservation and Restoration Sculpture major of the Graduate School of Cultural Property Preservation at the same university. After completing the doctoral program at the same graduate school, he produces painted wooden sculptures using unique expressions such as the technique of splitting the head and inserting crystal or glass eyeballs from the inside.
The origin of the idea comes from the image of creatures appearing in myths and legends, using animal statues that embody formless thoughts as motifs.
