Fujian
Fujian's thoughts are put into his works, and he aims to create art that stimulates the hearts of those who view it, interacts with them through his works, and gives them the energy to live together. His background is that in his mid-30s, he faced 'death' due to an incurable autoimmune disease. Wanting to give courage to take a step forward and a little peace of mind to those who have the same anxiety and suffering as his life that was miraculously saved, he began creating message works that go beyond the concept of calligraphy. Fueled by various stimuli such as encounters with people and collaborations with other genres, his evolution never stops.
PROFILE
Biography
Hiroyuki Fujiyama
Born in Hiroshima in 1972, raised in Kumano Town, the town of brushes. From childhood, I was exposed to calligraphy and felt joy in writing characters with a brush. In high school, I encountered "avant-garde calligraphy," was shocked by the power and form of the lines, and felt its charm.
During university, I encountered "modern poetry," turned words into work texts, won awards repeatedly at the Central Exhibition, and when I quit as a calligrapher in 2004 due to illness, I gave up calligraphy activities. After recovery, I stayed away from calligraphy for a while but couldn't forget the joy of writing, reflected on myself and calligraphy, and thought "I want to help people through calligraphy," so I picked up the brush again. Invited by Mr. Sama, I exhibited in NY, and taking the bold step to go to the US made me look toward world art and feel like risking my potential. In August, I held a solo exhibition in Kumano Town.
Key points of the work creation
Regarding the creation of the work, with the theme of "living," I challenged myself by trying different approaches from traditional calligraphy, using word calligraphy works, kanji and words, canvas, acrylic paint, ink, and color expression. I have thought about combining calligraphy and painting expressions such as reality and story into one form. I created it hoping it would be a work that triggers something to start moving for the viewer.

recommendation letter
Mr. Fujian's calligraphy holds strong will and energy within its tranquility. Each character exudes the milestones and emotions of life overcome, and I deeply feel the power that reaches straight to the viewer's heart.
Project theme: What does "a place to return to" mean to you?
People I have met who came from feelings like wanting to express the thoughts in my heart into something real, the joy of writing, and wanting to deliver something to others.
